NAFCU Compliance Blog reaches 1,500 subscribers

Nov. 30, 2009 – NAFCU’s Compliance Blog has recently reached a new milestone with 1,500 subscribers now signed up to receive daily information on compliance-related matters direct by e-mail.

The blog is a free source of information on a vast array of compliance issues. Created by NAFCU Director of Regulatory Compliance Anthony Demangone (also known as the “Compliance Guy”), the blog is one of the features of the NAFCU Regulatory Compliance Assistance Program.

"Never in my wildest dreams did I think that after launching the blog in October of 2007 that we'd have roughly 1,500 daily readers,” said Demangone. “I think it speaks to how important compliance has become within our industry and how many compliance professionals are thirsty for timely, accurate information.  It is very rewarding to see the blog take off like this."

NAFCU Regulatory Compliance Counsel Steve Van Beek notes that the blog allows the NAFCU Compliance Team to keep compliance professionals up to date with the most recent regulatory changes. “The blog has also allowed us to break apart large, complex regulatory reforms into smaller, manageable pieces and provide readers with a more detailed overview,” he said. Indeed, earlier this year the Compliance Blog provided credit unions with a section-by-section analysis of the Credit CARD Act.

One blog subscriber, Bob Roush, compliance officer at Fort Knox FCU in Radcliff, Ky., said he looks forward to reading the daily Compliance Blog entries and getting NAFCU’s take on a new law or regulation. “The blog is the best place I go to find out about [compliance-related matters],” said Roush. “It’s a very nice analysis of every new law, rule or regulation that comes into play along with a commentary on what the law means in layman’s terms.”

Another subscriber, Ken Long, vice president of compliance and loss prevention at Army Aviation Center FCU in Daleville, Ala., says the NAFCU Compliance Blog is the first thing he reads every day. One feature Long enjoys is the ability to ask post questions to the blog and receive an answer within minutes.

The blog is free for NAFCU members and non-members. Users can subscribe to the blog or read its content through an RSS feed system. To subscribe to the blog, visit www.nafcucomplianceblog.org.
